The Croatian Parliament, at its 10th session held on 3 July 2026, adopted the Bioeconomy Strategy until 2035, which will provide a strategic planning framework for the intensive development of the bioeconomy and thereby contribute to the development of the Croatian economy and society as a whole.

The Strategy defines a vision for the development of the bioeconomy, which will evolve rapidly as a dynamic and diversified sector making a significant contribution to overall economic activity in the Republic of Croatia and to its sustainability. Along with reducing dependence on raw materials from non-renewable sources and strengthening resilience to climate change, this is particularly important for rural and coastal areas.

The vision for the development of the bioeconomy will be achieved through the implementation of strategic projects, interventions, and activities that contribute to the attainment of the following strategic objectives:

• Developing sustainable production and markets within the bioeconomy;
• Increasing added value in the bioeconomy.

Through this Strategy, we aim to stimulate sustainable growth and provide solutions for creating added value. This includes products, services, research, and technologies that benefit numerous sectors, ranging from agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and aquaculture to value chains based on biomass processing, biomanufacturing, and biotechnology, including those in the fields of food, health, energy, industry, and ecosystem services.

By developing the bioeconomy, we will contribute to strategic autonomy, while reducing dependence on imported fossil fuel-based products will support climate and environmental objectives, including improved resource efficiency, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, enhanced water supply resilience, zero pollution, and the protection of biodiversity.
