The European Partnership “FOrests, forestry, and the forest-based sector: REsearch and innovation for a Sustainable Transition” (FOREST) has announced the forthcoming launch of its first joint call for research and innovation project proposals entitled:
“FORESTPathways: Building Knowledge and Solutions for Resilient Forests and Sustainable Forest-Based Futures”
The call is expected to be officially launched on 15 September 2026, while the selected projects are anticipated to commence in the first half of 2028.
About the FOREST Partnership
The objective of the European Partnership FOREST is to mobilise research and innovation activities that support the transition towards the sustainable use of forest resources and a wood-based circular bioeconomy. Through coordinated research and innovation efforts, the partnership aims to reduce fragmentation, foster innovation, and strengthen the competitiveness of the forestry sector.
Particular emphasis is placed on advancing forest management approaches that promote:
- biodiversity conservation,
- climate change adaptation,
- multifunctionality of forest ecosystems, and
- long-term sustainability.
The Ministry of Science, Education and Youth of the Republic of Croatia is one of 38 organisations participating in the funding of research and innovation activities under this call.
Indicative Call Topics
Project proposals will be invited under the following thematic areas:
- Climate-resilient forest systems
- Adaptive and multifunctional forest management systems
- Wood products and innovative wood-based products
- Forestry value chains, markets, and governance
Information and Networking Events
Following the publication of the call, several events will be organised for prospective applicants:
- 17 September 2026, 10:00 CET – Information webinar on the call, application procedures, and evaluation process
- 30 September 2026 – Partnering workshop held within the framework of the EUFORE 2026 Final Conference
- 6 October 2026, 10:00 CET – Networking webinar for potential project partners
